Week 3 Reflection Post: Inquiry and Collaboration
The core of the open learning philosophy is that online tools help us to create meaningful and impactful networks of support even if we are all in different locations geographically. For example, in our class this week we created pod groups and connecting with each other via mattermost showed how the digital space can help in creating opportunities for community forming and collaboration. This process reminded me that the process of learning is not an individual task instead can be a shared journey.
For my topic, I want to explore the influence of timely feedback with personalization in online spaces that can help in creating a learning process more human, responsive and growth-oriented. When I read BC Digital learning strategy, one thing that stuck with me was that if we want to create effective learning we need to consider more than just the access to technology, we need to create a digital space where everyone has access to the tools and resources needed and create a creative and connected thinking network.
Another thing that I found interesting was the topics of inclusive and learning models from the brief submitted to the BC Government in the summer of 2020. It stated that the focus should be on people more rather than the technology itself. We need to create an environment where learners, teachers and communities collaborate with each other with available tools and resources in order to engage meaningfully online. The PSII School’s inquiry framework helped to learn how an inquiry begins with curiosity. We need to ask questions and topics that matter to us and to our learners.
We created our pod group this week, and are starting to meet weekly for our assignments. This is exciting for me because it will provide an opportunity for me to learn more about the content and process of inquiry. We will be testing ideas, examining assumptions and meanings together. In a sense, this will become a small community where we all get to practice our values of curiosity and collective growth.
